On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence, declaring the 13 American colonies' independence from Great Britain. This was a pivotal moment in American history, marking the beginning of the United States as an independent nation. *Seven notable Virginians signed the Declaration. Their signatures are featured on the artwork.

The Declaration was primarily written by Thomas Jefferson, and it articulated the colonies' grievances against King George III and expressed the ideals of individual liberty and democracy. We have used these significant dates within the tartan design 07-04-17-76-13.
