Anne of Green Gables is the first in a series of novels written by Canadian author, Lucy Maud Montgomery. The initial novel of the series, first published in 1908, follows Anne Shirley, a spirited, opinionated red-haired orphan, from her arrival in Avonlea, when she came to be in the care of Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, throughout her life until she became a school teacher.

Anne's adventurous and imaginative spirit has captured the hearts of countless readers just as she captured the affections of Matthew and Marilla, the siblings who took Anne into their home- despite the fact that she was meant to be a boy who could help alleviate the workload of the farm. Lucy Maud Montgomery's works explored themes of belonging, community, and family values - themes which continue to be relevant today. Green Gables has itself become an iconic historic site, drawing fans from around the world.

Honouring the original oil painting "Beyond Summer Fields" by Ben Stahl, the Anne of Green Gables tartan design and palette reflects the imagery that captures the essence of Anne, in her home at Avonlea, on Prince Edward Island.
