The New York Islanders team was founded in 1972 as part of an NHL expansion plan. The Islanders were named for the team’s original location on Long Island. have become one of the most iconic teams in the National Hockey League (NHL). The Islanders played their first game on October 7, 1972, and have won 4 Stanley Cup® Championships between 1980 and 1983. The date of their first game and number of Stanley Cup® Championship victories has been used to create the thread counts (width of lines) within the weave of this original tartan design: 10-07-19-72-04.
